Hotel – Group assignment:

We chose these three hotels:
– Iglu Dorf Engelberg, Switzerland
– Bivacco Gervasutti Hotel, Italy
– Attrap’ Rëves Bubble Hotel, France

The history/background of the hotel, the number of guestrooms, the number of chains (if any), the ownership, the target market, etc. (JASMIN & ANNA)

Why do you think it is unique (HASMIK)

The review of the hotel (tripadvisor.com or other customer review sites) (JENNIFER)

What is the current value/potential future opportunity of the hotel, and etc? (JORDAN)

Your team will be required to make an oral presentation as a group. The presentation must be 20 minutes in length. Your team will be evaluated by the Instructor according to 5 different criteria. Each of the criteria will be rated from 0 to 4 (strongly disagree to strongly agree)(see details in Rubrics). The evaluation criteria for the orals are attached. You should note that they are different. Study these carefully when planning your oral presentation.

  1. Make use of the audio-visual materials and equipment available, i.e., overhead projector, slide projector, VCR and television, flip chart/stand, themselves (dressing up in some form of costume), signs/charts/posters, music/audiotape players.
  2. All group members should participate in the group presentation. The student who fails to participate in the group presentation will lose 20 points in the group project
  3. Avoid the approach of one person after another getting up and reading from their little 3 by 5 cards or other notes; this is not creative and your fellow students will "turn off" quickly. In general, the teams have performed best as they used a variety of techniques including using a videotape portion of their presentation, using skits or music to emphasize and illustrate key points, preparing slide presentations, designing their own advertisements/promotions, taping (video and/or audio) interviews with management or customers, and so on.

The three hotels that we have chosen are Iglu Dorf Engelberg in Switzerland, Bivacco Gervasutti Hotel in Italy and The Attrap'Rêves Bubble Hotel in France.

1 hotel: Iglu Dorf Engelberg, Switzerland
In 1995/1996 Adrian Günter built his first Igloo. In 2004 the first Iglu Dorf was built. Now Iglu Dorf has places for you to stay in Davos Klosters, Zermatt, Gstaad, in Kühtainear Innsbruck in Austria, and on the Zugspitze. Each igloo village is rebuilt each winter. International artists decorate the rooms of the Igloo Villages with great attention to detail, creating magical new worlds of snow and ice every year. This is unique because it is almost unreal to see that you can live inside something that does not melt. They have different types of rooms. The portfolio ranges from shared rooms for families, friends and groups to the Romantic Igloo, with private toilet if desired, up to the exclusive suite with private whirlpool. All igloo rooms are equipped with thermal mats and expedition sleeping bags for temperatures down to -40°C. There is a big difference in the prices. The cheapest Igloo for an adult costs 199 CHF for 1 night. The most expensive offer is 787 CHF, but for 4 people.

  • In addition to the unique night’s stay, the offer includes the following:
  • Welcome drink and aperitif tray
  • Use of public Whirlpool and/or sauna (depending on location)

All-you-can-eat fondue with regional mountain cheese

Night walk or snowshoe trek

Morning tea served to you in your sleeping bag

Breakfast buffet in the mountain restaurant

Comprehensive service from out guides

Today Iglu–Dorf has 89 employees, from igloo builders to managing directors, from accountants to bartenders. Adrian Günter who built his first Igloo in 1995 as i told earlier, is still a part of the company as Initiator, Managing Director, and Member of the Strategy Team.

2 hotel: Bivacco Gervasutti Hotel, Italy
The reason this hotel is unique is because it hangs on the edge of a cliff on the Frebouze Glacier. The hotel includes dining, as well as two quarters that have enough space for twelve people. It has solar powered energy. The hotel is 9,300 feet above sea level. The hotel was built by Italian architects: Luca Gentilcore and Stefano Testa in 2011. The hotel replaced a hut that was built in 1948 to honor a mountain climber named Giusto Gervasutti. There are four rooms and two dorms. The owners of the hotel are the CAI Torino. They were led by the Sucai, along with the Ski Mountaineering School, and was built by the LEAPfactory organization. LEAP stands for living, ecological, alpine pod and it is exclusive to Italy. This hotel is not a chain, it is the one and only. The hotel is targeted towards mountain climbers/hikers, because that is the only way to get to the capsule. In order to get to the hotel, hikers need a low harness, picozza, crampons, mountain boots, helmet, backpack, etc.

  • 3 hotel: The Attrap'Rêves Bubble Hotel in Allauch, France
Attrap'Rêves is a family business that was founded in February 2010. The family business consists of the brother, who has a degree for the hotel industry, a sister who has a degree in language and media publishing, and their mother who specializes in interior design.  Everyone in the family contributes their distinct abilities to the creation of the hotel. It is situated in the center of a 15,000m2 estate within a true Provençal pine forest. The bubble’s diameter is 13,000 feet. They can select between three distinct sites. It is located in Allauch, France. They have various bubbles and different sorts of accommodation. Some of the accommodations include zen, love nature, chic and design, etc. You have your own private place, and the restrooms are close to your bubble. Many couples visit to commemorate an anniversary or a birthday. It is unique because it is a natural spot where one may unwind and enjoy nature. It's possible to spot a rabbit or a squirrel. Furthermore, one will be able to see the night sky and enjoy its beauty. The bubbles were built by Pierre Stephanue Dumas. Although secluded, the bubble is not too far from the main building, which includes food, a jacuzzi, and a telescope. To keep the bubble a float, there is a quiet blower that also recycles the air inside the bubble. The room includes a king size bed, lamp, and a few tables and chairs. All the electricity works. To choose from one’s liking, they can either have a transparent window or tinted.
