"The Future"

Political polarization, disinvestment in our future (education, health, climate, immigration, family support), global geopolitical fracturing (China/Russia US/NATO), wars (including cyber-warfare) and nuclear weapons, accelerated global automation of jobs, pandemics (this one and the ones that will follow), environmental mega disasters and sea-level rise, high levels of economic inequality in the US and the dearth of federal oversight and regulation over corporate and financial practices are symptoms and sign-posts of a domestic and world order facing substantial challenges

But also, American democracy is an ideology and guiding light that has inspired generations of citizens and immigrants to work and protest and advocate in order to realize the promises and potential of a free democratic society

Perhaps there will be a cooling-off period domestically

Perhaps Americans are sick of the dysfunction

Perhaps we will rise to the occasion to preserve and protect democracy and its promise of freedom and representation for all people
