PURPOSE:  
The purpose of this assignment is to provide you an opportunity to apply what you have learned in our class to life
outside of the classroom. At the same time, this assignment allows you demonstrate to me that you understand some of
the major course concepts we have covered in class.  

First, discuss some health disparities in the United States related to race and socioeconomic status. Socioeconomic status includes education, income, and occupation status. Then, discuss how pre-existing health disparities (health disparities that existed in low income and minority communities before the pandemic hit) contributed to higher rates of death from Covid-19 among minority populations in the United States. Finally, discuss what we can and/or should do to help improve health outcomes in these communities, now and/or in the future.
? Note: “Healthy People 2020” defines a health disparity as “a particular type of health difference
that is closely linked with social, economic, and/or environmental disadvantage. For example,
people who lack access to preventative care (including lower-income people and people of color),
have higher rates of death from cancer and other chronic health issues (e.g., diabetes) compared
