Week One Discussion 2
Familiar or Unfamiliar Music
You will see that answers will vary from student to student simply because they are set up to be subjective. Your effort counts as there are no wrong answers.
After you complete the readings for this week, and the Additional Assignment project, watch the following videos: Make the effort to listen to each piece of music in its entirety whether this music is your kind of music or not.
Listen to each piece then by using the Five (5) short questions, apply them to each one of the six music video examples beginning with Rufus Blaq. All of the other works are considered to reflect classical music; even if it isn't what you thought was "classical music".
Always name the piece or composer, (one who writes the music) or performer and write in complete sentence format. Number the answer to match the work.
- Is it music? Is it good and useful or potentially harmful?
- When or where should this music be played and not be played?
- For what age level is this not appropriate?
- Is it pleasing and beautiful? (Watch out, your answer may expose your defaults and amount of music and history knowledge).
- Why is it important to keep an open mind when listening to unfamiliar music?
