Each student will contribute to a class discussion regarding each topic in the course. Each discussion board entry is worth 50 points for a semester total of 400 points (50 points per entry times 8 times), and you should aim for at least 4 long paragraphs (detail is important!)—think of this as a short reaction paper. You must do the following in each of your entries:
- Explain what stood out to you from the listed lectures for the discussion board; relate this to something you’ve experienced in your life.
- Pick two of the readings assigned from the Newman book for the listed lectures (not a video) and explain to me how each reading fits in with something you’ve seen (in person or through media) or experienced in your life.
- Pick 2 concepts (total) from the listed lectures and tell me how they fit with the readings you picked for this assignment.
- Describe which 2 big theories (from the Sociology Primer) best fits the readings/videos for the listed lectures and explain in-depth why you chose these big theories.
- You need to respond to another student’s post with feedback concerning how their post relates to your own ideas or views about the topic (at least 2 full paragraphs required). Use this response to your classmate as a way to have meaningful dialogue with other students regarding your sociological analysis of everyday life.
