Course Written Assignment: There will be a course written assignment due at the end of Week 14. A rubric for this assignment is attached to this syllabus. The topic for this assignment will be an economic subject (micro or macro) of your choice. For example, you may wish to explore examples of hyperinflation in history. You may wish to research why the country of Greece, Venezuela or the territory of Puerto Rico are in such dire economic straits and their prospects for recovery in the future. You may like to research why the communist economy of the Soviet Union finally failed after 70 years. You may wish to research how the Federal Reserve System contributed to the 2008 recession, or how it contributed to the recovery from that recession. Over the duration of the course, you are highly encouraged to discuss possible topics for this paper with the instructor. While I don’t expect a graduate-level paper in economics, neither will a slapped-together, non-spelled-checked, unedited paper produced at midnight the day before its due date is going to impress me (refer to Doonesbury cartoon below. Something in between the complexity illustrated there should be your target).
