Analyze the writing and effectiveness of each of the following three speeches: persuasive, informative, and entertaining.
Provide a written criticism of each as was modeled in the previous examples. Each analysis should be approximately half a page in length for a total of about 1.5 to 2 pages, double-spaced. For each speech, provide the following:
An analysis of the purpose
How well did the speaker demonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of informative, persuasive or entertaining speeches?
- An analysis of the structure of the speech
How effective was the overall organization including the introduction, the body, and the conclusion?
- An analysis of the use of techniques
- Did the speaker successfully use techniques suited for the genre? For example, if the speech is persuasive, did the speaker use the rhetorical triangle with its appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos effectively?
An analysis of the preparation
- Did the speaker show evidence of planning and practice?
- An analysis of the speaker's use of rhetorical devices
Alliteration, figurative language such as similes and metaphors, parallelism, repetition, allusion, analogy and others you may have noted. How well are the elements are applied to the speech?
