The ability to pioneer change through research with a critical eye on reliable resources is an invaluable skill-set when it comes to quality improvement and patient safety in practice. Many times in nursing, a problem is identified but the solutions proposed are either not feasible or no solution is proposed. In order to make changes, one has to have the ability to read, understand and potential champion new research to come up with creative yet safe solutions. Furthermore, the bachelor's prepared nurse has an expanded knowledge-base of the intricacies of healthcare that include cultural sensitivity, legal ramifications, social determinants of health (SDOH). and payor sources. Being informed on the limitations of an individual's payor sources as well as factors that determine their ability to adhere to the plan of care and prescribed treatments encourages the nurse at the bedside to delve deeper into potential solutions for lack of available resources as well as participating as an active member in an interdisciplinary team. Anbari & Vogelsmeier (2018) delved into the effect of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree had on patient safety. Prior to BSN coursework, an individual might agree with the participants of this study that report the BSN degree has little to no effect on patient safety in practice. The critical eye notes that the sample size is 8, not an adequate size or representative sample, and an average of nearly 4 years of practice in acute care or critical care confounding whether experience in the field of nursing or the Bachelor's of Science in Nursing plays an integral role in promoting patient safety and quality of care (Anbari & Vogelsmeier, 2018, p. 301).
