Do people have a choice as to whether or not they get involved with a gang? As you answer this question, please consider and account for the following:
Does it matter if they live in an area where there is a lot of gang activity? What do the statistics say and what do the anecdotal experiences you have seen in the course say? To those who feel there is not a choice, how do you explain that the percentage of people who get involved in gangs in areas where there is significant gang activity is actually lower than the percentage of people who do not get involved in gangs? Isn't that proof that people are not a product of their environment? To those who feel there is a choice, how do you explain that there are higher percentages of people involved in gangs in areas where there is more gang activity? Isn't that proof that people are a product of their environment?
