You will now turn your attention to your next writing assignment: a short persuasive essay (or speech!) of about 3 to 4 paragraphs in length (an introduction, 1 to 2 body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph). You can also compose your persuasive text in the form of a letter, if you prefer.
Your persuasive text can be on a topic of your choice; however, it does not have to be a highly academic topic that requires lots of research.
Here are a few ideas:
- Too much money isn't good for people.
- Bullies should be expelled from school.
- Celebrities should have more privacy rights.
- Video games promote violence amongst its users.
- Professional athletes are paid too much.
Make sure you have included:
- An attention-getting hook.
- A clearly stated claim.
- Logical reasons with supporting evidence.
- Present a counterclaim and rebuttal.
- A conclusion that sums up your argument and includes a call to action.
- A tone and voice appropriate for your audience.
- A clear and purposeful pattern of organization with transitions.
- Correct spelling, grammar, and mechanics.
Review the rubric to make sure you are submitting your best work.
