NOTE:
*These guidelines listed below are also attached as a word doc within the files available. The data you will be going off of is also attached. There is a guidance doc attached as well for some extra guidance if need be!
Critical Analysis Project Guidelines:
Part One
Students will be required to provide a critical analysis of each exercise test listed below.
The focus of the critical analysis should be on:
o Accuracy: validity, reliability, etc.
o Practical Value: cost/benefit considerations, best methods for maximizing accuracy,
appropriateness for regular exercisers vs. specific types of athletes, etc.
Each should include a minimum of 400 words and be supported by at least three references, two of
which must be from academic sources (i.e., journal articles, textbooks). Word count should be noted
for each analysis.
Each should be written single-spaced and generally in APA style/format.
Each should be largely narrative in format, though a bullet style format with each bullet comprising
full coherent sentences is also very appropriate.
Each should generally be free of details of how the protocols are performed except where those
particular protocol details are important for analysis. That is, do not provide protocol details because
that has is already known.
Required Assessments:
o Wingate Anaerobic Cycle Test
o Vertical Jump
o VO2max Testing (on cycle and treadmill)
o Ventilatory Threshold Testing (on cycle and treadmill)
o Lactate Threshold Testing (on cycle and treadmill)
o 1.5 Mile Run Test
o Bruce Max Treadmill Test
o Run-based Anaerobic Sprint Test
Part Two
You will be provided with mock data from a client/athlete and will use this data to create the
following:
o Summary of all test results
o Evaluation of performance
o Programming for an endurance event
The summary should be a nicely formatted report of all results.
The evaluation of performance should critically discuss strengths/weaknesses and discussion of how
test results agree/disagree with each other regarding fitness and performance.
The programming should include a 60-day plan to complete a duathlon (5K run, 20K bike, & 5K run).
Details regarding the programming component will be provided later in the semester.
